Cox Hallett Wilkinson advises on the £630 million acquisition of the "Gherkin" skyscraper

February 2007

Cox Hallett Wilkinson ("CHW") has advised Evans Randall, the UK private investment banking firm, in relation to the acquisition of 30 St. Mary Axe, the skyscraper in the City of London nicknamed the "Gherkin", from Swiss Re, the Swiss reinsurance company.

The acquisition of the landmark property by Evans Randall and IVG Immobilien for £630 million makes the "Gherkin" the most expensive single building in the capital.

The CHW team, led by Jonathan Betts, advised Evans Randall on the Bermuda corporate aspects of the acquisition and the related bank financing, with SJ Berwin LLP advising on the UK law aspects of the transaction. CMS Cameron McKenna (UK counsel) and Conyers Dill & Pearman (Bermuda counsel) advised IVG Immobilien.

Jonathan Betts commented "We are delighted to have assisted Evans Randall on this high profile transaction. It was particularly enjoyable for me to work alongside some of my old colleagues at SJ Berwin and I hope that I will get the chance to do so again soon".
