Scholarship Opportunities

CHW is pleased to offer their annual scholarships to encourage Bermudian students interested in higher education in the study of law.  The principal award provides financial support of $25,000 to a Bermudian student with outstanding scholastic achievement, who is pursuing a law degree at a recognized institution of higher education, that will qualify the student for call to the Bermuda Bar.

Completed applications must be received by the 15 July of each year.  If the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday, then applications will be due the following business day.

2014 Scholarship Winners

Melissa Spurling: Melissa graduated with a BA (Hons) from the University of Toronto in 2011 and in 2014 obtained an LL.B (Hons) from the University of Kent in Canterbury. Whilst at Kent, Melissa was active in the University Law Clinic, Law Society and Cross Country Society. In addition she was also enrolled in the Royal Academy of Dance Syllabus from 2012-2014 and remains a member of the Bermuda Civic Ballet. In September, Melissa will embark on the MA (Legal Practice Course with Business) at BPP University in Cambridge (UK).
Ellen Briers: Ellen attended Saltus Grammar School until she had completed her GCSE's before moving to Bermuda High School to commence the International Baccalaureate Programme. In June 2013 she graduated from the University of Dundee in Scotland with a First Class Honours Degree in English Law. Ellen has spent the last year travelling, volunteering and learning Spanish in South America. She is now headed to Manchester to undertake an MA (Legal Practice Course with Business) at BPP University (UK).
William Finnerty: William attended Saltus Grammar School for 13 years, obtaining 9 IGCSE/GCSEs , 4 Advanced Placement Exams (AP) and 1 A-Level qualification. He held the position of Head Boy for the 2013-2014 academic year and was very active in the Saltus arts programme both on stage and back stage. William has a keen interest in human rights and attended the 2014 UNIS-UN conference in New York City at the United Nations General Assembly Hall where he explored the topic of globalisation. He will be attending the University of Warwick (UK) where he will be working towards his LL.B (Hons.)
